The spell of the desert comes back to me, as it always will come. I see the veils, like purple smoke, in the canyons, and I feel the silence.

Long before I could see it in person, the beauty of the landscape of the American West had captivated my imagination. In magazines, tourist brochures, and even as a backdrop in the occasional movie, it appeared remarkably different from my surroundings. And once I visited it, I was compelled to capture its beauty and mystique on canvas.
